Chalcopyrite On Fluorite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Flußschacht Mine, Rottleberode, Harz, Saxony - Anhalt, Germany
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
10.1 × 6.2 × 4.3 cm
Description

Several sharp and well developed, slightly patina coated crystals of Chalcopyrite, scattered on a cluster of Fluorite. The pale green and partially reddish coloured Fluorite is almost transparent, highly lustrous and the surface features an interesting quadrangular stepped pattern. The Chalcopyrite is dark brass coloured and most of the crystals are intact. This is a very good specimen from this classic Harz locale, largely well known for its great Fluorites, but this is rather a Chalcopyrite specimen despite the Fluorite is in almost good condition even though not perfect.
