Description

This is a highly represantive specimen from Niederschlag in Saxony. It features numerous of sharp and well defined, mostly gemmy and amber coloured crystals of  Baryte coating a cluster of meat-coloured blades of the same species. The Niederschlag area is an ancient mining district and was  still mentioned in the 16. century. With interuptions, the mining area was active until 1915. During the GDR times there was a general research for uranium.  Then the mine was abandoned in 1991. It was due to the rise in raw material prices that the mine mine was put back into operation for Fluorite and Baryte in 2008. Since then, the mine produced a bunch of fine Baryte and Fluorite specimen. Unfortunately because of the mining method, almost undamaged specimens have been very rare. And this is a super piece in almost pristine condition.
