Fluorite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Alston Moor, Cumbria, United Kingdom
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.8 × 5.7 × 2.9 cm
Description

A striking, fairly large fluorite cluster from this classic locality. Glassy luster and purple colour make it stand out. With daylight, it glows a vivid purple - no surprise since this is from the region that produced the fluorite which lent its name to the very term " daylight fluorescence!" The sharp crystals are excellent developed as well and they are also partially transparent. The surface features an interesting pattern too. No significant imperfection at the center and also the periphery of the display side. Just one side on the bottom shows imperfection.
