Sphalerite & Siderite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Neudorf, Harz, Saxony - Anhalt, Germany
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.9 × 2.9 × 2.5 cm
Description

This is the finest quality of sphalerite from Neudorf I ever saw and this species is even much more rare than the sought after galenas. In this case the mirror bright, transparent and multifaced sphalerite is associated with also high lustrous, rhombohedral olive-green siderite and less but well developed quartz. The center of the specimen is pristine, the periphery shows the contacts with the rock. This is a super rare piece.
