Description

This is a beautiful oldtimer of the most sought after barite variety from the area of Wieden in southern Black Forest. There was only one pocket, discovered in the end of the 1960ies which produced a bunch of this so-called "Hahnenkamm-Baryt" (cockscomb-barite) The colour is typically caramel brown, the crystals are sharp edged and well and typical developed, often with a second generation of barite on the surface. A very good and rare specimen. All major mines of the Wieden area (Anton, Tannenboden and Finstergrund) are abandoned since 1974.
