Amboy Deposits, Amboy, San Bernardino County, California, United States of America
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)

2.7 × 1.5 × 1.5 cm
Description

A crystalline mass of antarcticite from California in a vial.   The highly hygroscopic species will begin to dissolve in it's own hydration when it approaches room tempterature.   On a chilly day, it will fully crystallize.   I have attempted to show the mineral both solid and partially dissolved in the photos.   Rarely seen material known from Antarctica and Mars, and only a handful of localities in between.   From the collection of Christopher J. Stephano.
