Description

Excellent and very aesthetic group of torbernite crystals on quartz matrix. The crystals of this deposit are possibly some of the best crystallized in Europe. These torbernites were discovered on May 16, 2003, when the Doctor in Geology Manuel Montes Martínez was investigating new kaolinized areas within the granitic area.  These torbernites were located in a small bag. This small bag of Torbernite crystals was inside a quartz subvertical dike, of direction E-W, has an average power of about 3 meters. This quartz dam is healing an old fault or fracture within a granite of two micas and containing also as main components quartz, potassium feldspar and plagioclase. When the granite undergoes a hydrothermal phenomenon, then a process of degradation causing the kaolinization of the feldspars; This kaolinization is the cause of that together with the crystals of torbernite cavities or molds are frequently observed, which would be the "negatives" of the feldspar crystals that disappeared due to the kaolinization. Torbernite in this deposit is a secondary formation, the crystals don't reach large size, but its quality is exceptional.
