Description

Very interesting specimen of crystallized melanterite, Melanterite, in this locality, only occurs when in winter there are very special conditions in an old mine crossed by the Brunita quarry in Cartagena, Murcia, Spain.
Melanterite is highly unstable and tends to dehydrate quickly if it is not in a humid and cool environment, losing three molecules of water and transforming into Rozenite which is another different mineral of white color.
To try to avoid this dehydration, these samples have been immersed in an acrylic solution (Paraloid) and thus try to isolate the mineral, for now it seems that they are stable, but I do not know how long they will last, it depends a lot on the environmental conditions of each locality, especially if a showcase with temperature and humidity regulation is not available.
I want to make it clear to every possible buyer that I do not guarantee the stability of these specimens.
