Description

Here is a wonderful specimen of the rare Falcondoite and willemseite. Falcondoite and willemseite are rare nickel and magnesium silicates found in a serpentinized harzbergite massif from an obducted ophiolite at a plate collision of oceanic crust with continental crust. The locality is in the Dominican Republic, which is the Type Locality for falcondoite. Nowadays it is impossible to find specimens of this mineral because the mine is closed many years ago. This piece, and some other more, are part of a nodule that a miner had at the door of his house and he had kept it as a memory of his days in the mine, it was very hard to get him to sell us the rock, but in the end we got it.
