Description

This is a large barite crystal from one of Colorado' classic localities, the Book Cliffs. The bottom 2/3 of the crystal is rather opaque but the top near the termination turns to semi transluscent. One termination face is lustrous, the other, somewhat flat. While collecting the Book Cliffs, one must be on the lookout for black widow spiders, scorpions and even an occasional rattlesnake which all occupy the concretions from which the barite crystals come.
