Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Book Cliffs, Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado, United States of America
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.4 × 5.8 × 3 cm
Description

Multiple terminations on a mass of barite make an attractive and somewhat unique specimen. The Book Cliffs are known for the water clear orthorhombic dipyramidal crystals of barite. They are found in concretions within the Mancos shale. This piece was collected in the 1970's and quality specimens have become more and more difficult to obtain. These barite crystals are quite temperature sensitive and should be handled accordingly.
