Description

 This specimen of pyroxmangite is richly covered with  sphalerite, chalcopyrite and galena. It was thought to be rhodonite until 1976 when tests proved it was actually pyroxmangite, a relatively rare mineral. The Sunnyside Mine is the most famous mine in the Silverton area and was one of Colorado's top gold producers. It was closed in the early 1990's and is very unlikely to re-open. Specimen weight = 20 grams.
