Calcite On Quartz Psm Anhydrite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Animas District, San Juan County, Colorado, United States of America
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
10 × 10.5 × 5 cm
Description

This epimorph is covered with 1-3 mm. scalenahedral calcite crystals that have grown on several delicate blades of quartz psm anhydrite. The anhydrite was dissolved long ago in the vein. Quartz encrustations are relatively common in the San Juans but I have only seen a few with secondary calcite overgrowths. There is some damage to the far right hand side in picture # 2.
