Description

The new mineral ferro-fluoro-edenite, (IMA 2020-058) , (NaCa2Fe2 + 5 (Si7Al) O22F2) was found as prismatic crystals up to 1.00 mm within cavities in the ejected materials of the 1873 eruption at La Fossa crater. Associated minerals are quartz, magnetite and vonsenite. The crystals are dark brown to black, transparent or semi-transparent with a vitreous luster.

In this specimen:

Several prismatic crystals of ferro-fluoro-edenite, tufts of bronze or dark bundles of vonsenite are visible and in addition to quartz, some very small black crystals of magnetite. Quite rich.
