Description

New member of the allanite group found on August 2016 in a very limited portion of the outcrop at Monte Maniglia. Monte Maniglia outcrop is located within the so-called Maniglia-type stratigraphic series, belonging to the Acceglio Zone at an altitude of 3000 meters. This is the first reported REE-bearing species of this high potential alpine manganese locality in the Cottian Alps. It occurs, very rarely, in very dark red-brown/black subhedral crystals up to 0.5 mm in size in pyroxmangite veins. His name it’s related to ferriakasakaite-(La) (differing only by the homovalent substitution of Fe3+ with Mn3+) one the three phases belonging to the allanite group approved by IMA in 2012 and 2013 and coming from the Shobu area, Ise City, Mie Prefecture in Japan. Hard to find material for the difficult accessibility of location and the very limited portion of  the Mn ore deposit where this new phase has been found. Material coming from the holotype rock.
