Description

New Ca-Na-Mn Arsenate coded as IMA No. 2017-016 found 10 years ago in the dumps of a Fe-Mn deposit in Ligurian Briançonnais Domain near
Borgata Oberti in the municipality of Montaldo di Mondovì. Dedicated to Gian Paolo Piccoli (one of the founders of the geological section of the Eusebio Museum of Alba) and Gian Carlo Piccoli (son of Gian Paolo and author/co-author of books on minerals from Piedmont). Piccoliite normally occurs as vitreous black aggregates of anhedral crystals (red in thin section and with brown streak), embedded in the calcite-quartz veins associated with cryptomelane, hematite, tilasite and Mn- and Fe-rich “phengite”.
