Type Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Salton Sea, Imperial County, California, United States of America
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1 × 0.6 × 0.4 cm
Description

Brownish crystal aggregates of a mixture of the extremely rare K-Na-Mn chloride mineral saltonseaite and the K-Na-Fe chloride mineral rinneite associated to colorless cubic crystals of sylvite in a completely analyzed specimen by SEM/EDS (see copies enclosed). Analysis in photo 6 belongs to the intermediate member of the series saltonseaite-rinneite, while analysis in photo 7 belongs to sylvite. Oxigen in the spectra is due organic impurites present in the sample and percentages are only approximate since the sample was not carbon coated.

Don't miss the opportunity to get this extreme rarity from the TL in Saltonsea, a mineral almost never seen in the mineral market, much less in analyzed specimens from the TL !

Saltonseaite has only been found in two localities worldwide!

Ex Vandenbroucke Museum collection from Waregem, Belgium.
