Native Cadmium

Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Yana River, Verkhoyansk, Sakha Republic, Russian Federation
Class:
Single Crystal
Size Range:
Micromount (under 1cm)
Size:
0.02 × 0.02 × 0.01 cm
Description

0,23 x 0,20 mm nugget of metallic native Cadmium from only one of the four known localities worldwide, in a completely analyzed specimen by SEM/EDS. The nugget is covered by a thin layer of otavite (CdCO3) (more dark in BSE) producing additional peaks of oxygen in the spectrum.

Together with the specimen you will receive its certificate with the cadmium analysis, SEM photo with marked point of analysis, EDX spectrum and description of the find (see photos). The reason of the coin as a support is that a conductive surface is needed in order to analyze the specimen by SEM/EDX. Analysis performed by Pavel Kartashov.

This material was described by M.I. Novgorodova et al. in the article "A Native Cadmium from Southern Vekhoyanie" Zapiski VMO 1982, 111, N3. pp.303-315.

Cadmium is, without any doubt, one of the rarest native elements ever discovered and a very sought after mineral for the collectors of native elements, since this species is almost never seen on the mineral market, much less in well identified and analyzed specimens, like this one (by SEM/EDS).

Don't miss the opportunity to get this very sought after native element !!
