White crystals of the very rare ytterbium mineral keiviite-(Yb) on a matrix of purple yttrian fluorite (yttrofluorite).

Ytterbium minerals are extremely rare in Nature since only 4 species from more than 5000 species known are ytterbium minerals ! (source Mindat).

In addition to this, the specimen has been analyzed by SEM/EDS (see copy enclosed) and it has an outstanding 4,54% lutetium (Lu)(!!). Lutetium as a main element is not known in minerals (0 species known) so this specimen is noteworthy as it has a very high percentage of lutetium.

Lutetium is the rarest of all natural rare earth (lantanides), except for promethium that it is synthetic, and thus not known in Nature.

Keiviite-(Yb) has only been found in two localities worldwide !, being this one from the type locality.

Don't miss the opportunity to get this chemical oddity !
