Description

Black crystal aggregates of enneasartorite and hendekasartorite, two extremely rare new thallium minerals from the Lengenbach quarry (IMA 2015-074 and IMA 2015-075, respectively, both announced in February 2016 !) grown on a realgar crystal.  Both species have been analyzed by EDX (see analysis by Dr. Topa of the NHM Wien in the "Analysis section", ref. HG094).

Enneasartorite and hendekasartorite are two new members of the sartorite group minerals, also of recently creation.

For a discussion of these two new minerals (and also a third new one) please see :

Topa,D.,Berlepsch,P.,Makovicky,E., Stroeger, B. and Stanley, C. (2015) Enneasartorite, IMA 2015-074,Hendekasartorite, IMA 2015-075. CNMNC Newsletter No. 28, December 2015, page 1861; Mineralogical Magazine, 79, 1859–1864.

and also the text of the original announcement below:

February 9, 2016 - The approval by the CNMNC of three new sulfosalts from Lengenbach has just been announced. The three new minerals  heptasartorite, enneasartorite and hendekasartorite are all - as their name says - members of a "subgroup' of the sartorite homologous series. In the course of systematic investigations Dr.Dan Topa (the main authour) has observed a systematic correlation between the amount of Tl in "sartorite" and the crystal structure. At a few critical values of Tl content the crystal structure tilts into a new one, leading to a new species. "Sartorite" is now the designation for a group of minerals. As it is the case for most of the prismatic, grey Lengenbach Pb sulfosalts a distinction between the new minerals is only possible with thorough analytical investigations.
