Linarite & Caledonite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Highlands, Namibia
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Micromount (under 1cm)
Size:
0.4 × 0.4 × 0.2 cm
Description

Outstanding micromount of two common minerals worldwide, but very rare at Tsumeb: Caledonite was labeled as RRR in Tsumeb II Gebhard book (extremely rare, single occurrence with less than 10 specimens) and Linarite as R (rare, several occurrences with a few specimens). From this book: " Caledonite was extremely rare and is formed as minute sky-blue crystals up to 5mm. These were only found in the outcrop and are associated to cerussite, linarite and brochantite".

In addition, the specimen has a label with "Tsumeb, von Stufe Stranskiite" so it is possible that this specimen cames from the type specimen in which stranskiite were first described !.

Very nice under the microscope !
