Very rare black mass of fullerite (formula C60), an allotrope of carbon jointly with graphite, diamond, lonsdaleite and chaoite.
Named for Richard Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983), American architect and visionary. Invented the geodesic dome which illustrates the molecular morphology of fullerenes. Apparently a fullerene with a C60 composition.
Sinonims of this mineral oddity are Buckminsterfullerene, Bucky Balls and Fullerene, due to the bucky ball-like shape of the C60 molecule.
