Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Rudabánya, Rudabányai Mountains, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Hungary
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
2 × 2 × 1 cm
Description

A few very small black acicular microcrystals of capgaronnite scattered in two small cavities and associated to a very nice yellow crystal aggregate of chlorargyrite/bromargyrite/iodargyrite (exact species unknown, photo 4) and malachite, in a wonderful thumbnail under the microscope. Capgaronnite is one of the very few minerals with Bromine (Br) and Iodine (I) in its composition. In fact, of almost 5000 known minerals, only 17 have Bromine, only 26 have Iodine and only 6 have Bromine and Iodine at the same time in its composition (from MINDAT database), so this is a real rarity! Magnification more than 50x required.
