Niedermayrite is a extremely rare cadmium mineral found in only 4 localities worldwide. It occurs as bluish green well formed crystals in a contrasting matrix associated to skyblue aggregates of probably allophane (main blue mineral in the last photo).

Although cadmium is not a very rare chemical element, cadmium minerals are very rare in Nature: From more than 5000 species known, only 27 are Cd minerals !. For a review of this oustanding discovery in Laurion see Lapis, 28/5 (May 2003) where an exact photo of the wall inside the mine where this specimen comes from is pictured (p.32) !.
