Description

Mantienneite, is an extremely rare K-Mg-Al-Ti phosphate found only in 3 localities worldwide, it's present here as a lot of about 1 mm brown granules in a capsule. Many of the granules have microcrystals of the mineral. Size of 1cm x 0.7cm is the size of the part of the capsule that is full of mantienneite granules. Additional interest of this sample is the copy of the attached old label, the same than the one pictured in mindat for another sample of the same species, since the origin is the same (BRGM, Bureau of Recherches Geologiques and Minieres, signed by J.Mantienne after whom the mineral is named). Cameroon only have two minerals with type locality, and mantienneite is one of them (the other being remondite-(Ce)). Ex-André Saussus (Belgium) specimen.
