Description

This mineral has long been known as GS2, a poorly described mineral from Tsumeb. Quite recently it has been identified as koritnigite by the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). I requested the analysis but I only got a "Study Card" of the analyzed sample by EDS, not the analysis itself. However there's no doubt about the identification. Incidentally, koritnigite was already described from Tsumeb in 1979 (its type locality) but in a very different morphology and color. It is pretty lime-green massive material with good lustre and conchoidal fracture. It is nicely translucent on the edges.

Since there is some controversy about the identification of this specimen as koritnigite, please see the following link for more information: http://www.mindat.org/forum.php?read,11,176753,199904   Many thanks.
