Description

Sphalerite from Büschhof/Schretzmair quarry are well known for their epitaxial growth of chalcopyrite. This specimen is special as the sphalerite is almost completely coated by microcrystalline chalcopyrite. Only one crystal face is free of chalcopyrite (the dark brown face on the picture). Also some chalcopyrite crystals with a second generation are present inside the dolomitic vug, which is unusual, too. This is a very attractive and rare specimen for the locality. Backside of the specimen is formated by saw cuts.

Büschhof quarry is an interesting locality. Cu-, Fe-, Pb- and Zn-minerals are present inside a fossil devonian stromatopore reef.
