Rouaite

Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Likasi Mine, Kambove, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.5 × 6 × 3.5 cm
Description

A nice patch of well-formed deep blue Gerhardtite (or Rouaite) crystals on a massive Cuprite matrix. Due to the form of the cavity, there are some lovely single and structured crystals to be found on this specimen. This rare copper nitrate has been found in the 1920s and there were some specimens found until the 1970s. This is part of a new find that was made in early 2018. It is unclear if the specimens are actually from the Likasi Mine or from the Tenke area, but both are part of the same deposits.
