Massive/Crystalline

Miniature (4.5-7 cm)

Description

Richellite is a very rare calcium and iron phosphate. The mineral is the red-brown coating on the matrix, this waxy layer. It occurs as a secondary (?) mineral in phosphatic sedimentary rocks, usually associated to other phosphates like delvauxite (darker brown) or koninckite. It is probably a former gel with variable chemical composition. This rich specimen is from the Type Locality in Belgium. SEM-EDS analysis only shows the P, Ca and Fe presence, mixed with Si. Good size.
