Description

This is a 121 gram specimen of pure sodalite var. hackmanite. Some of the hackmanite is tenebrescent and turns magenta on exposure to shortwave UV as seen in the second photo. The specimen pictured has been exposed to shortwave UV. However, all of the hackmanite flouresces orange under long and shortwave UV. Unlike some hackmanite (depending on the UV index) the colour does not fade in sunlight but will fade to white (in about 6 months) when left in the dark. This fading can be accelerated by exposure to halogen or fluorescent lighting. This is evident in the photos showing faded magenta patches. When you receive the package, the specimen will be faded white and will need "re-charging" in strong sunlight or under a UV lamp. New legislation is awaiting approval to designate the Quarry and surrounding lands as protected, therefore, any future collecting will be prohibited.
