Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Davis Quarry, Dungannon Township, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada
Class:
Massive/Crystalline
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
3 × 2 × 1.5 cm
Description

For sale is a sample of pure hackmanite which is a white variety of sodalite. When irradiated with SW UV, portions of it turn purple (tenebrescence, photo 1) and then fades slowly to white in the dark (photo 2). This hackmanite is unusual in that it loses it's purple color in the dark and regains it in sunlight. However this happens for a limited time and at some point it starts to behave like normal hackmanite. That is, turns white in sunlight and retains it's purple color in the dark. It also fluoresces bright orange-yellow in LW UV ( photo 3).
