Description

Here is an opportunity to get a rare example of non-magnetic pyrrhotite. Only the common polytpe 4C is magnetic so this is either the polytype 5C, 6C or 11C. To determine which of these three it is, is extremely difficult, time consuming and expensive; therefore this has not been done. Note that old literature would call this non-magnetic pyrrhotite hexagonal but recent studies have shown that there are no natural hexagonal polytypes and that the non-magnetic polytypes are either monoclinic or orthorhombic. Also there are no known euhedral non-magnetic pyrrhotite crystals so this is as good as it gets. The pyrrhotite is on white nepheline and hackmanite.
