Description

This specimen features a vug lined with white dolomite crystals on which is a group of undamaged pale purple fluorite crystals in parallel growth on a larger incomplete fluorite crystal. A solution cavity of what used to be an anhydrite crystal is between the group of fluorite crystals and the underlying larger incomplete crystal. Also present is minor calcite and sphalerite all on a matrix of limestone.

During the digging of hydro canals in Niagara Falls, the excavated rock was transported to spoils piles on Montrose Road. Over the years, most of the rock has been either removed or covered over with clay. Only a few piles of large boulders remain, however the property has been designated as the future site of a grocery store and the site will soon be closed to collectors.
