Description

This is a new find. Anhydrite has not been found before in this region of Ontario and is very rare at this locality. The pale grey-blue anhydrite crystalline mass measures 5.5 x 4.0 x 0.8. It is associated with white gypsum, clear selenite, and pale pink dolomite.

During the digging of hydro canals in Niagara Falls, the excavated rock was transported to spoils piles on Montrose Road. Over the years, most of the rock has been either removed or covered over with clay. Only a few piles of large boulders remain, however the property has been designated as a park, and the site will soon be completely restored and closed to collectors.
