Rhodochrosite Guidottiite Fluorite & Hematite

New Discovery

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Potosi Mine, Francisco Portillo, Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico
Class:
Combination
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.2 × 3.4 × 1.6 cm
Description

Beautiful glassy, pink rhodochrosite crystals on matrix. Interesting details: Rhodochrosite crystals on the side have been encrusted with and/or replaced by brownish moss-green guidottiite. On these crusts sit tiny black balls of hematite and a colorless fluorite crystal (no detail picture).

Guidottite is the Mn-analogue of cronstedtite. We've had it analyzed. As it is this is a new discovery for that mine and would be the second only known locality for that species - according to Mindat.
