Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Berstadt, Wölfersheim, Wetterau, Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
3.5 × 3 × 2.5 cm
Description

The open pit is now flooded with water and named Unterer Knappensee from German 'Knappe' = mine worker or miner. This is an unusual and striking form for vivianite, sort of like a hedgehog all tucked in on itself. The specimen consists of radiating, intergrown blades. Good color, lustre and very interesting form make this a superb rare locality specimen.
