Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Cruvin Mine, Bruzolo, Torino Province, Piedmont, Italy
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.5 × 3.1 × 1.8 cm
Weight:
32.00gr
Description

Numerous rosette-like aggregates forming a metallic drusy partly epimorphing some crude creamy dolomite crystals. Very good quality for the löllingite, with a good coverage on the main side of the specimen.

Well-crystallized Alpine löllingite is very rare in the first place. In Italy, the best specimens came from this Piedmont locality, two small mine adits. Only a handful of specimens were recovered across the years, and the locality is practically defunct. This specimen is a very good representation of what the mine once provided, and possibly one of the best I have ever handled.

In my mineral collection since 2017, this is a much older specimen.
