Description

The small, yet pitoresque Wittichen valley is laden with several interesting localities. A lesser known spot is given by the pathcut right below Grube Sophia, on the way to the Schmiedestollen dump. Among these altered granites, there are occasionally some spatic calcite spots, which might host minerals such as baryte, quartz and chalcopyrite, mostly micromounts.

This specimen features a nice drusy featuring pale eisenkiesel quartz crystals populating a granite drusy, associated to dark metallic hematite. Good lustre and conditions for the crystals. This is the only specimen I have found in the area and it dates back to 2008.
