Description

A dramatic pyramidal crystal of hauyne proudly crops out of grey/green ejecta matrix. The crystal, over 1 cm in size, pale blue with a thin hazel crust, and it is gigantic for the specie. Associated, a group of dark, crude augite crystals frame the large crystal and increase the color contrast. A minor contact atop of the specimen. On the side, a secondo partial hauyne crystal up to 5 mm in size, although cruder than the main subject.

Volcanic ejecta from Fosso Attici are home to some among the largest worldwide hauyne crystals ever found in Italy. While the locality has been described in the 80s, the best quality crystals were found a few years ago during a lucky campaign. This specimen comes from that very find.

Impressive, in my collection since a couple of years.
