Description

Colorful specimen of phantom calcite from this classic Mexican locality. This specimen is very special. It shows 3 scalenohedric crystals, mostly coated with a thin crust of iron oxides, which tends to detach from the specimen very easily. When the crust goes, the crystals underneath are very lustrous.
The crystals themselves show a multicolor phantom, ranging from orange-red to yellow-transparent, while the growth patterns on the crystals are texbook. Interestingly, a second generation of rhombohedral crystals of milky-yellow calcites has grown on the sides of the scalenohedrons.
To my knowledge, these specimens come from a find dated back to the 60s. A few minimal contacts here and there, the main crystal has the missing apex, which shows a perfect cleavage.

A true Mexican classic, it comes with a custom made polysterine base (not shown) and its original label. Former collection Kasper (CH).
