Description

A rich set of sprays of elongated cronstedtite crystals nicely sits in a vug composed of pyrite. Very good lustre and size for the specie, which otherwise tends to make rather crusty aggregates.

The classic paragenesis for cronstedtite is altered pyrite, and this specimen is no different. The matrix is deeply altered, with pervasive cracks, and even though it loses tiny crumbs and powder here and there, is still appears fairly solid.

Recently acquired from a Swiss historical stock, it comes with an  Infanger label (please refer to the Mineralogical Record label archive), a prolific Swiss collector of Canton Uri - thus making the specimen well over 50 years old.
