Description

Noble opal from Europe is very rare. One of the most famour occurrences was the area of the - then - Cervenica, nowadays Dubnic, which provided good classic opal for carvings and jewelry.
The specimen up for auction is a rich surface of white opal with blueish-noble tracts, and it covers the classic trachite matrix. With a thickness of a few millimeters and a very good glassy lustre, this specimen is one of the best I have ever possessed.

In great conditions and very representative for the locality, is a real 'Holy Grail' of European classics.

It comes with a Carl Infanger label (please refer to the Mineralogical Record label archive), a prolific Swiss collector of Canton Uri - thus making the specimen well over 50 years old.
