Chloroxiphite With Mendipite

Former Richard 'Dick' Barstow (UK)
Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Merehead Quarry (Torr Works), East Cranmore, Somerset, United Kingdom
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
2.4 × 1.6 × 1.1 cm
Description

A rich thumbnail sized individual of pale pink mendipite in the classic spatic habitus beautifully contrasts with dark green, lustrous areas of chloroxiphite. The specimen is quite interesting because chloroxiphite appears to occur only at the very interface between mendipite and the black manganese rich matrix - a minor portion of the overall specimen.
A very good specimen for those two rare species. It comes from a small multispecimen batch from the Barstow stock (UK, label not included), a very famous British dealer.
