Benitoite

Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Benitoite Mine, San Benito County, California, United States of America
Class:
Single Crystal
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1.4 × 1.4 × 0.7 cm
Description

Textbook floater benitoite crystal. The specimen features an excellent triangular habitus, very lustrous faces and an overall blue-grey color. At the tips, the gemminess is evident. An interesting feature is given by the negative structure at the centre of the crystal. It does look like a hoppering, and there is a second generation recrystallization which appears to be in parallel with a set of the main crystal faces (visible in the second and fourth picture).

Among the oddest benitoite crystals I have ever handled, it comes in a good color and quality. An excellent quality piece, it comes in its Perky box. Now very hard to find as the locality is defunct.
