Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey, United States of America
Class:
Combination
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
9.3 × 4.7 × 4 cm
Description

Rich specimen displaying zincite, willemite and franklinite. Zincite makes the classic red spots and it is associated to franklinite, which makes the jet black ones. The highlight of the specimen is rather willemite, which appears as a thick green vein across the rock and dramatically increases the color contrast. Possibly also some calcite in between, although I did not check the fluorescence.
Very rich and colorful, quite representative for the three species. The pasted label (in German) testifies that this is a rather old specimen, possibly dated back to the 60s, when it was acquired by a Swiss collector I have recently purchased it from.
