Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description

Huachocolpa District, Huancavelica Province, Huancavelica Department, Peru
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.8 × 5.5 × 3 cm
Largest Crystal:
1.30cm
Description

Botroidal aggregates of delicate pink rhodochrosite beautifully contrast with 'urchins' of white quartz crystals. On both sides, rosettes of pink saddle shaped rhodochrosite decorate the specimen. One portion of the specimen features a patch of incomplete black sphalerite, and in a fissure there is a millimetric dull, black crystal which probably is an altered bournonite (or possibly another sulphosalt).
In great conditions, very esthetic.
