Description
Locality:
Bottino Mine, Stazzema, Lucca Province, Tuscany, Italy
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.2 × 5 × 3.7 cm
Description

Rich specimen with typical curved metallic meneghinite crystals in quartz matrix. Strong lustre for the crystals, which depart as a thick silvery mass and diverge as bent fibers. Associated, some small chalcopyrite masses and jet black cleavages of Fe rich sphalerite (var. marmatite).

In excellent conditions. Self collected on the old medieval dumps of Bottino mine in 2001. The dumps are now very hard to reach, as a vast mudflow in the area has buried a vast portion of the area. From my own collection.

2001
