Description

Broken Hill is world famous for its silver, lead, zinc ores. Galena after sphalerite is the 2nd most common mineral ore species. Crystals however are extremely rare. This specimen from the supergene sulphide zone on the 300m level of the South Mine features isolated and groups  galena crystals to 0.5cm across on tan coloured colloform aggregates of sphalerite. The galena crystals display a combination of cubic and ocahedral faces
