Mitridatite On Variscite Over Crandallite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Iron Monarch Open Cut, Iron Knob, Middleback Range, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
3.6 × 3.3 × 5.4 cm
Description

A hausmannite matrix has a series of cavities loaded with red varcisite var ferrian variscite spheres and crystals. These are then dotted with green mitridatite spheriods. Interestingly, a number of variscite balls have been broken through showing a core which appears to be a white fibrous mineral. The mineral is most likely crandallite which occurs in a wide range of forms at Iron Monarch and has been reported with varcisite before, this is the first time I have offered it, as a seed for the variscite to grow over. The area in question has been marked with a red and white arrow
