Description

This specimen is from a remote mine operated by Snake Valley Minerals NL in the early 1970's. The area has been rehabilitated since.

This is a hefty specimen with the matrix being solid sphalerite/schalenblende. The specimen is covered with crystals on both sides. The main display face features micro arsenopyite crystal on matrix covered with calcite crystals to 3cm.

Amongst the calcite are pale blue to clear fluorite crystals to 1cm and the odd basic isolated galena cube to 2mm. The reverse side is covered with micro calcite and quartz crystals with isolated sphalerite and galena crystals.

Whilst this assemblage maybe common in many parts of the world it is an oddity in Australia.
